Workshop on Digital Journalism - Full presentation

Launch of DiJAI Students Forum on 27th July 2017

Coinciding with the second Remembrance Day of Dr Abdul Kalam, DiJAI launched the Students Forum in two Colleges viz. (1) Dr MGR Janaki College of Arts & Science for Women and (2) Soka Ikeda College of Arts & Science for women at Chennai on 27th July 2017.  Around 65 student members from both the colleges have been enrolled after a rigorus selection process.  The students from different domains with good writing skills (Tamil or English) and with a passion for 'Digital Journalism' were selected. After the formal launch, DiJAI organised a workshop on 'Digital journalism'. Three experts shared their views on three different topics.

Shri Vinoth Poovalingam, CEO, Hocalwire made a presentation from Delhi through tele-conference on 'Global trends in Digital Journalism'.  Shri Vinoth manages the technology part of several news portals. His presentation is given here.

Shri V Rajendran is a Cyber Law Consultant and Advocate.  He is one of the Editorial Team members of PreSense and a Trustee of DiJAI.  He made a presentation on 'Cyber Laws affecting Digital Journalism'.  His presentation is given here.


Students Forum for DiJAI formed in two Colleges

Coinciding with the second Remembrance Day of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, on 27th July 2017, 125th edition of ezine PreSense and the Students Forum of Digital Journalists Association of India (DiJAI) were launched at Dr MGR Janaki College of Arts & Science for women, Chennai.  Dr Mariazeena Johnson, Pro-Chancellor of Sathyabama University was the Chief Guest and launched the initiatives.  DiJAI is one of the initiatives of PreSense.



Susan Koshy, Editor of ezine PreSense tracing the history of the ezine PreSense explained the purpose of Students Forum.  While delivering the inaugural address, Dr Mariazeena Johnson wanted a similar DiJAI Students Forum to be started in a grand manner in their University.  Representatives from other Colleges who attended the event wanted a similar Students Forum to be launched in their institutions also.  Presently DiJAI plans to launch the Students Forum in four or five institutions in the next six months.  



Presently, DiJAI Students Forum is launched in two Chennai based Colleges, viz. (1) Dr MGR Janaki College of Arts & Science for Women and (2) Soka Ikeda College of Arts & Science for women.  The student  members were enrolled through a rigorous selection process by the College Authorities.  Around 65 students from these Colleges are now enrolled in the Students forum.



Students from different domains with good writing skills (Tamil or English) and with a passion to become a good Digital Journalists were the only criteria for selection.  



Before the launch of Students Forum, an exclusive interview with Dr Abdul kalam, recorded over phone in August 2017  by Prime Point Srinivasan (Editor in Chief, PreSense) was screened.  In this exclusive interview, Dr Kalam has given six suggestions to Media persons to be part of national development.  The six point agenda set by Dr Abdul kalam will be the focus for the Students Forum.  



DiJAI will handhold the students to become a good Digital journalists focussing on positive and development journalism.  The interview with Dr Abdul Kalam is embedded here.



After the launch of  the DiJAI Students Forum, a workshop was held on the Digital Journalism.  Details of the workshop with complete presentations will be given in the next posting.

The 125th edition of your ezine PreSense will be launched on 27th July 2017, coinciding with the second death anniversary of Dr Abdul Kalam.

Digital Journalists’ Association of India (DiJAI) is one of the initiatives of this ezine PreSense. PreSense and DiJAI will form ‘DiJAI Students’ Forum’ in three select colleges in Chennai (Sathyabama University, Soko Ikeda College of Arts & Science for Women and Dr MGR Janaki College of Arts & Science for Women) with 30 student-members from each college.  On 27th July, the DiJAI Students’ Forum will be launched at Dr MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women, RA Puram, Chennai. 

Dr Mariazeena Johnson, Pro-Chancellor, Sathyabama University will launch the 125th edition and the Students’ Forum.  A workshop on Digital Journalism will be held for the benefit of the Students Forum.  As a tribute to Dr Abdul Kalam for his idea of ‘positive and development journalism, PreSense and DiJAI aim to promote his idea through the students. Based on the initial experience, we plan to take the plans forward to include other educational institutions.
